*WELCOME NEW MEMBER: *We welcome our newest member, Jaeden Julio Lopez into
membership by holy Baptism. Jaeden's parents are Juan and Ashley Lopez. Shona
Newsome is serving as godmother.
*Guest Preacher:* We are privileged to have Rev. Kevin Wilson, mission and
ministry facilitator for the Ohio District southern region, to bring the
message. Please join him in the parlor after service for lunch and conversation.
*CONFERENCE ON THE AUGSBURG CONFESSION: *Gethsemane will have its second annual
Conference on the Augsburg Confession Saturday, June 28th . The keynote address
will be given by Dr. Masaki of Concordia Theological Seminary. This is an all
day advent with breakout sessions led by pastors in the Ohio District. The
normal cost is $ 30.00 per person and $ 40.00 for a couple. The special
Gethsemane price is $ 15.00 for the individual and $ 25.00 per couple. See the
brochure on the back table. This is a great opportunity for you to grow in
appreciation of Lutheran doctrine and our Confessions.
*GETHSEMANE CHOIR:* Many have expressed interest in forming a adult choir here
at Gethsemane. Those interested will have a short meeting on Sunday, May 25th
after service. Please come if you are interested in being involved. We will meet
in the Adult Sunday School room to discuss what can be done.
*TRINITY SUNDAY POTLUCK*: After the service, there will be a potluck in the
parlor downstairs. Please come down and enjoy lunch with the congregation.
*FRIENDSHIP SUNDAY*: Gethsemane will have its summer Friendship Sunday on June
22nd . This is an opportunity for you to invite your friends, neighbors and
coworkers to come and hear the gospel. We will have some postcards back on the
table in the next couple of weeks.
*NEW CHRISTIAN WISDOM CLASS: *Pastor will start a new Christian Wisdom Class on
Wednesday May 21st at the church. Please note that the date has changed. See the
folder in the rack on the back table in the narthex. This class introduces or
reintroduces people to the basic doctrines of the Christian faith. It also
serves as our membership class. If you haven't been through the class in the
last five years, the pastor encourages you to come and bring a friend.
*VACATION** BIBLE SCHOOL:* Kristi Brown is looking for volunteers for Vacation
Bible School. It will be held the last week of July, July 28 to Aug. 1st , 9:00
AM to 12:00 PM. Please contact Kristi if you are willing to help with VBS.
*LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME TO MEÉAND SING*: Brenda Howell is calling on the
children to come again on Sunday mornings as they prepare to learn another hymn
to present in the worship service
*GROWING IN CHRIST- SUNDAY SCHOOL:* In Sunday School, the children learned the
story of Peter and Cornelius (Acts 10) and how like them the Good News comes to
us. Talk about how in church we receive the Good News that, although we are
judged unrighteous and deserving of death, God mercifully declares us holy,
righteous, and innocent because of Christ. What does this mean for our daily
lives is a good question to discuss as a family.
*_IN OUR PRAYERS_**:* We pray for: Sheila Cornelius, Frances Riddle, Jason
Jenkins, Barb Rech, Maureen Stuckman, Cecil Borders, Pete Knapp, Jack Kyser;
Jackie Caudill; Kimberly Simone, and our Christian Wisdom Class participants.
*May 18 *"The Church is not simply a place where nicely dressed people come to
gather for donuts and coffee. It is the place where the church thief and the
abortive mother come to hear, 'I forgive you all your sins in the name of the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.' It is the place where divine justice is truly
meted out in His ironic way. It is GRACE we lift up as God pulls them from their
sins. It is GRACE that consumes the soul of the penitent. It is GRACE that
consumed us so that we might not relive our sins because God has forgotten
them."
/Rev. Ryan Matthias, associate pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa.
